Review:Bejeweled 2, a good old jewel swapper game with no special features at first sight, mesmerized me for a good hour and a half. Twice the fun of Bejeweled, it looks beautiful, it sparkles, moves, explodes! The atmosphere of a space adventure is perfectly conveyed with the help of well thought-out design and music. The sound effects remind of those in movies where the newly build spaceship takes off and the action captivates the crowd. Moreover that man's voice saying "level complete" and little encouragements like "incredible", "excellent" makes you feel proud to be a part of a mission (like saving the world or something like that).
Four game modes cater for your every wish. Classic mode with its untimed game, Action mode challenging you to beat the clock and constantly watch the time bar at the bottom of the screen, the opposite of Action - the Endless mode in which you may sit back and idly swap the gems, and, finally, the Puzzle which actually requires more than just an ability to match 3 or more gems of one color. While some of the puzzles are pretty easy to solve, others, on the other hand, do make you put on your thinking-cap and sometimes undo the moves in order to clear the field and complete the level. Shame on me, but I used hints in this mode way more than once!
Though there are not much special effects, in each mode (except for Puzzle) you can create power gems or hyper cubes by swapping the gems successfully. Not only they explode like fireworks, they also bring additional points.
